Course Description

Imagine you are the CEO of a hospital. Through a generous gift from a major donor, you are able to add a new pediatric wing to the hospital. You've narrowed down your choice for the commercial construction company that will win the project to two companies that have provided competitive bids. You interview the CEOs of each construction company. Company A's CEO says, "We don't follow blueprints or engineering drawings. We're so good, we just wing it." Company B's CEO says, "We follow a rigorous, systematic process that ensures we meet the highest standards for safety, quality, and time to occupancy." Based on these responses, which company are you more likely to award the contract to? As with the construction of a new building, development of a new service should follow a process that minimizes risk and enhances the quality of the service experience delivered to the end customer. In this lesson, you will explore a systematic process for developing new services. You will focus on both front-end planning activities, such as idea generation and screening, and implementation activities, such as service prototype development and testing and service commercialization.
