Course Description

Endless variations fall under the umbrella of "flexible work arrangements," including staggered shifts, variable hours, job sharing, and unpaid vacation time. The world of work, globally, is headed toward greater flexibility as technology makes more options available and employees are demanding a better mix of work and home life. Which of these options might work for you? What might be available to you within your organization if you advocate for yourself? In this lesson you will look at some of the most popular options and consider which of them might work for you. You will examine some of the academic research related to flexible work, including how to make a business case for greater flexibility within your organization. You will look at some of the recommended strategies for flexing and access a worksheet designed to help you incorporate some of those best practices into your work life. You will also hear from Change.org executive Jennifer Dulski about her efforts to balance work and family; she describes her approach as a "mashup." And finally, you will complete an activity in which you identify your own plans for making the most of flexible options.
