Course Description

Proper, frequent exercise is an important component of maintaining a healthy body. Eating the right diet to optimize athletic performance is therefore a worthy goal. Although "dieting" in the sense of restricting intake of certain foods for weight loss may be ineffective, the correct dietary choices will allow your body to create the energy it needs for physical activity. In this lesson, you will examine the effects of drinking water and consuming carbs, fat, and protein on athletic performance and determine why consuming more of each does or does not aid in enhancing athletic performance. You will also analyze popular diet and exercise claims to ensure they are science based and to identify when they are not. For the best result, complete "Managing Weight, Exercise, and Nutrition: Regulating Body Weight" and "Managing Weight, Exercise, and Nutrition: What Exercise Does to the Body" prior to taking this lesson.
