Course Description

Biological theories of eating raise some serious doubts, even as they claim to explain certain eating phenomena. Because of these doubts, they seem to be implausible — but how, then, do we explain the parts of the theories that do work if we're trying to argue that the theories themselves are bogus? In this lesson, you will investigate a series of arguments against biological theories of eating. For the best result, complete these lessons in the Energy Expenditure and Theories of Eating series prior to taking this lesson: Measuring Energy Expenditure, Energy and Food Intake, Gastric Theory of Eating, and Biological Theories of Eating.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Investigate a series of arguments against biological theories of eating
  • Examine alternative explanations for the conclusions they plausibly draw
  • Explore a few factors that biological theories fail to explain
