Course Description

The process of regulating body weight can be thought of as a flow of energy: Energy comes into the body through the food you eat then leaves the body in various ways as that energy is burned. In the prerequisite lesson, "Measuring Energy Expenditure," you learned about calorimetry, or the ways that scientists have developed to measure the energy you burn. To complete this equation, you also need to be able to measure how many calories are coming into and being stored by your body. In this lesson, you will define calories and assess options for measuring the energy content of your body. You will also examine the strengths and weaknesses of several methods for determining how much energy your body has stored. For the best result, complete "Energy Expenditure and Theories of Eating: Measuring Energy Expenditure" prior to taking this lesson.
