Course Description

Most people have heard the saying, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” This relates well to the study of atherosclerosis. Even when we understand that health is a lifelong process, it’s often easy to push that thought aside, thinking it can be done tomorrow or at some point down the line. Hardened arteries do not happen overnight, and neither do their prevention and treatment. Fortunately, even if you made poor choices in the past that have led or will lead to atherosclerosis, there are lifestyle changes and interventions you can and should make now to decrease your risk for heart attack and stroke. To increase your health, you will need to strike a balance of the right dietary choices, exercise, and general wellness practices. In this lesson, you will explore some strategies/interventions for reducing the damage done to your body by atherosclerosis and analyze what these strategies require as well as why they are effective. NOTE: Talk to your doctor about the best way to manage your health. Treatment of atherosclerosis may require additional medical intervention.
