Course Description

Fats get a bad rap. When you think of fatty foods, you probably envision foods that you've been warned about, typically termed "junk." It's common to see advertisements for low-fat diets; in fact, many people equate "healthy" with "low-fat," but the truth is much more complicated. Your body needs fats like it needs any other macronutrient. Yet because fats are digested differently from carbohydrates, there is potential for them to have harmful effects on your health. In this lesson, you will examine how fats are broken down, absorbed, and transported throughout the body. Understanding these processes will allow you to better conceptualize and determine the role of fats and how you can minimize their negative consequences.
