Course Description

Finding the right balance of blood glucose levels can be tricky. When the body is not producing enough insulin, or when insulin receptors stop working, glucose levels are too high and diabetes can result. On the other hand, if insulin is overproduced or too few carbohydrates are consumed, glucose levels can drop dangerously low. Low blood glucose, or hypoglycemia, can happen to anyone, but it can also be a side effect of an improperly balanced treatment of diabetes. This is part of what makes managing diabetes complicated. In this lesson, you will analyze the stages of hypoglycemia in depth. You will explore the symptoms and side effects of low blood glucose as well as what parts of your body are activated to correct it. You will also identify why following a hypoglycemic (low-glucose) diet can be beneficial for the treatment of both hypoglycemia and diabetes.
