Course Description

Much of the initial focus within AI systems focused on capturing knowledge, as it is essential for designing effective search procedures. Yet capturing and using implicit knowledge in particular has proven especially difficult.

In this lesson, you will take a look at knowledge-based AI technologies and see why knowledge-centered approaches play a critical role in building AI systems. You will also examine why search alone cannot work for AI agents. You will look into the key differences between implicit and explicit knowledge and consider the implications for creating effective knowledge-based AI systems. In addition, you will delve into semantic networks, which are often used to represent knowledge in AI.
