Course Description

Bias can impact your organization's hiring process in various ways other than via the language your organization uses in recruitment materials and beyond. In the early stages of the hiring process, initial screening decisions can be contaminated by bias on the part of either the people conducting screening decisions or the software used to sort or filter applicants. In order to reinforce a DEI-centered hiring framework, your organization's initial screening process should be inclusive and rely only on relevant information in order to create a better environment for a diverse candidate pool. In this lesson, you will evaluate how bias can have an impact on the initial screening process and what methods can be used to minimize the effects of bias. You'll analyze the benefits and challenges of specific methods such as using "blinding policies," with a detailed focus on the Ban the Box movement.
