Course Description

Many business problems come down to a need to maximize or minimize a target. When you need to minimize or maximize an objective while being subject to constraints, it’s likely that the programming tool known as an optimization method can help you determine the best path forward. In this lesson, you will examine how to formulate optimization problems and discover how to build a tool to enable you to solve them. You'll investigate the process of defining variables, constraints, and objectives as well as transforming your problem from words to mathematical relationships. You'll then explore the three major types of optimization problems and how to distinguish among them. You'll also have the opportunity to create a spreadsheet-based optimization tool and use features of Microsoft Excel to find solutions.
