Course Description

The purpose of analyzing a process generally involves an objective related to improving productivity (e.g., make more), efficiency (e.g., make more and make it more quickly), or quality (e.g., make it better). So what is the starting point to achieve these goals? In the case of process improvement, you begin by asking questions about the current capabilities of the process. For example, how much can currently be made, how long does it take, and how many resources are needed? In this lesson, you will investigate how to determine the current capacity of a process. You will consider processes with a single flow unit and those with multiple flow units. You will also explore the concept of bottlenecks and how they affect the capacity of a process. You will then have the opportunity to practice calculating process capacity. For the best experience, complete "Process Performance: Process Flow" before taking this lesson.
