Course Description

It's common to search online for information or a new product, click a website link, read the first sentence, and think, “No, this isn't what I need.” The problem may not be the information or the product; the problem may be for whom the content was created: someone older, someone younger, someone wealthier, someone with a slightly different need — essentially, someone other than you. In this lesson, you will explore how to identify and define the specific intended audience (or target audience) so you can be sure you write to and engage with the people your organization wants to reach. You will start by identifying the audience and defining their needs. You will also explore the value of creating an imagined individual audience member, or persona, to help you focus your writing. As you put these skills into action, you may find that the work can be more challenging than expected. That’s good — it means you're on the right track to intentionally developing content that will meet your goals.
