Course Description

One of the first steps in developing a new design is understanding the existing conditions. In this lesson, you will start by examining the chemical properties of the soil that is present. There are a variety of tests that can be done in the field, but some tests require samples to be sent to a laboratory. By carefully reviewing the results of both of these types of tests, one can start to decide what can or should be done in a particular planting site.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Identify reasons for performing chemical tests of a soil
  • Describe how changes in soil chemistry can affect the plants that are grown in that soil
