Course Description

Before you can decide on which plants to use in a landscape, you need to know the environment that they will do well in, as well as what benefits or drawbacks they may have. This means knowing the botanical language that is used to describe plants, so that you will be able to positively identify them. This lesson focuses on leaf arrangement and shape. The process of preserving plant specimens for study is also a valuable skill to develop, as preserved samples are often used for identification as well as a demonstration of traits of interest. You will have the opportunity to practice this skill, and use these samples to better visualize the complex botanical language.

Benefits to the Learner
