Course Description

The wine regions of Germany are found primarily in the southwestern corner of the country, with a couple of outliers to the east. For the purpose of this lesson, Germany Area I consists of the Mosel, Rheingau, Ahr, and Mittelrhein wine regions. These strikingly beautiful regions are the most northern of the southwestern regions.

In this lesson, you have the opportunity to discover why some of these vineyards are the most photographed in the world and how vintners have adapted to their unique topography. You will also contemplate the grape varieties most associated with these regions and examine some representative wine labels. For the best experience, take "Foundations of German and Austrian Wines: Introduction to the Wines of Germany and Austria" prior to taking this lesson.

Important: "Area" is not a term used in the German and Austrian wine industries. It is used in the lesson to provide structure.
