Course Description

No matter what the formal structure, organizations are comprised of people, and people are social beings. Informal social networks and culture are powerful forces in organizations. How do organizational designers regard these social elements?

In this lesson, you'll explore how to account for the social aspects of organizations. You'll consider the structures that people in the organization create outside of the official hierarchy...perhaps to fill a void or to speed up a process. You'll also explore strategies that managers can use to help shape an organizational culture that aligns with the larger goals. For the best experience, take "Designing Organizational Systems: Design Policies, Systems, and Practices to Manage the Business and the Workforce" prior to this lesson.
