Course Description

In this course, you will build on your learning from the first three courses in the series — as well as any prior advocacy knowledge and experience — and gain key insights into the most important steps for planning and implementing an effective advocacy campaign.

As you progress through the course, you will explore the following key components of advocacy planning.

  • Identify the Issue: What is the issue you want to address?

  • Determine the Goal: What is the desired result of your advocacy efforts?

  • Gather Information: What are the facts of the issue, and what is the background/history? Who is involved or impacted, and what do they want? What else is at play in this situation?

  • Develop a Plan: What are the steps you will take to accomplish your goal?

  • Implement the Plan: Who needs to be involved? Who is responsible for carrying out each step?

  • Assess the Plan: What is working well — and what is not working?  Are you encountering any obstacles that weren’t considered when the plan was developed?

  • Adjust the Plan: What alternative actions can you implement to accomplish your goal?

  • Repeat: Implement the adjusted plan, assess, and re-modify actions as needed.
