Course Description

The focus of this course is to introduce you to advocacy in terms of the following questions:

  • What is advocacy?

  • Why is advocacy important?

  • Who serves as an advocate, and for whom do they advocate?

These questions are explored both in general and in the specific context of their application within the work of the PSEA. A fourth question — How does advocacy work? — is also touched on in this course, and it is explored in much greater detail in subsequent courses in the series.

  • Distinguish between public and private sector employees.

  • Recognize the difference between union members and bargaining unit members.

  • Analyze the elements of substance and style that make advocates and leaders effective.
