Course Description

You have focused on developing your listening skills and on processing feedback to learn more about how others view your behavior. You have now become a “Listening Leader.” You are in an excellent position to influence your team or department by observing, analyzing, and responding to members in ways that facilitate a strong listening environment. This lesson gives you an opportunity to apply the listening principles and skills you have acquired as you assume this new role. You will explore the characteristics and behaviors of a Servant Leader, sometimes called a Listening Leader: someone who is defined by their concern for others and who leads and influences through their listening. You do not need to have a formal leadership role; the Servant Leader facilitates a listening environment by helping colleagues communicate in ways that foster collaboration and respect, whether in person or virtual spaces. In addition, it is important to look beyond your team or department to assess your organization and the ways in which its culture supports or blocks your efforts to foster effective listening. Regardless of your specific role within an organization, think of yourself as a Listening Leader and work to create a strong listening environment. For the best experience, take all four lessons in the "Active Listening and Processing Feedback" series in order: "Assess Listening Skills", "Process and Respond to Feedback", "Facilitate a Listening Environment", and "Identify Emerging Listening Challenges."
