Course Description

Antitrust law is clear: You can't make any agreements "in restraint of trade"; i.e., agreements that restrict competition. There are many different ways businesses and other groups have made agreements that run afoul of antitrust law, but what happens if there is no physical document laying out an agreement or no witnesses to testify to a meeting to make an agreement? In this lesson, you'll examine how courts determine an agreement without a "hot document." You'll also consider another type of conduct that also inhibits competition.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Examine how courts determine an agreement without evidence of an actual agreement
  • Identify when parallel conduct is legal
  • Explore what oligopolies are and how they can harm the economy
