Course Description

A nonprofit organization's leadership efforts are often focused on programmatic agendas that align with its mission. For a nonprofit to be successful, budgets must also be fully aligned with organizational goals. In this lesson, you will explore what budgets are, how budgets are assembled, and how you interact with your organization's budget. You will also explore budgeting and consider how to align budget with mission. In an activity, you will assess your organization's approach to budgeting. For the best experience, complete all four lessons in the "Determining Appropriate Budgeting, Debt Financing, and Cash Flow" series: "Assessing the Role of Budgets in Your Organization", "Preparing an Operating Budget That is Appropriate to Your Organization", "Managing Cash Flow to Meet an Organization's Financial Obligations", and "Using Debt Financing Analysis to Evaluate the Health of Your Organization."
