The Clayton Act prohibits mergers that substantially lessen competition. In this lesson, you'll examine how the courts and legislatures have interpreted that statute. The Department of Justice has created a set of guidelines that explain how it will review proposed mergers, both to help firms prepare to apply for a merger and to prepare courts to hear a dispute on a merger, as needed.
