Course Description

Change hinges on the influence of power, and effecting change is about shifting power relations. So how can you identify the specific sources of power that may be blocking or advancing specific proposals of change? In this lesson, you will distinguish between the forms of power that are essential to the fight against racial, social, economic, and environmental injustice and the forms of power that are coercive and thrive on control, domination, and fear. You will articulate how to perform a power analysis that identifies and categorizes specific sources of power. You will then use your power analysis to inform and reinforce your systems thinking analysis to target specific sources of power and intervene among the power relationships that are thwarting progressive change.
