Course Description

Systems thinking can help you clarify the causes of persistent racial, social, environmental, and economic inequities and injustices in your community. More often than not, decisions for change are temporary fixes that fail to look beneath the surface at the roots of issues.

Systems thinking leads you to look below the tip of the iceberg, shift your perspective, and identify which parts of a system need to change to sustain lasting impacts. In this lesson, you will explore the concept of systems thinking and apply it to instances where racial, social, environmental, or economic changes are needed. You will examine a case study of a community organization that used systems thinking to catalyze change in an effective way. You will then follow a systems change process with four key stages that serve as a guide to building the equitable change you envision. Finally, you will clarify the current reality behind an inequitable situation and envision an equitable future without it.
