Course Description

Systems thinking can help you identify the sources of persistent racial, social, environmental, and economic inequities and injustices in your community. More often than not, decisions for change are temporary fixes that fail to peer below the surface at the root cause of issues. Systems thinking requires you to look beneath the tip of the iceberg to change your perspective and identify what parts of the system need to change to sustain lasting impact. In this lesson, you will explore the concept of systems thinking and apply it to instances where racial, social, and economic changes are needed. You will evaluate a case study where a real-life organization uses systems thinking to catalyze change in an impactful way. You will determine the mental shifts needed to prepare yourself for the change that systems thinking brings about. You will also walk through the four stages of a change process where you will generate a focus statement and map the focus statement to leverage points that can work toward a positively envisioned future.
