Course Description

Once you have a clear understanding of client-directed counseling and reflected on your role using this method, it's time to examine techniques for self-management. This will help you control what and how you communicate, both verbally and nonverbally. The focus of this lesson is on you, as the emphasis is placed specifically on your part in the counseling session — your hypothesis (the conclusions you draw about your client) and your behavior. As you discover how you can manage your hypothesis, practice silence, and hold back on advice, some new techniques will be added to your toolkit. You will also have the opportunity to practice silence and examine how you would respond to several client scenarios.
