Course Description

In this lesson, you will explore an approach to ethical decision making that involves comparing a current dilemma with similar cases or situations, whether real or imagined. The case method starts with our judgments about particular cases or situations. Those judgments can then be considered and modified in light of similar cases or the guidance of ethical traditions. This method is similar to the method of common-law analysis employed by lawyers.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Identify the benefits of comparative analysis in ethical decisions
  • Explore the processes involved in the case method
  • Consider how the principles of different schools of thought might apply to a certain ethical dilemma
