Course Description

Private regulation is the practice of a corporation voluntarily regulating itself and the labor conditions in its supply chains. Organizations can attempt to regulate suppliers' labor conditions in global supply chains by linking purchasing practices to compliance results from audits. As you will discover in this lesson, it's not clear whether companies have the will to consistently reward suppliers for compliance or punish them for non-compliance. Interestingly, sometimes a company's purchasing decisions actually contribute to poor compliance from suppliers on standards such as working hours and forced labor. You will delve into the complicated relationship between purchasing and compliance here, and you will analyze your own organization's relationships with suppliers and how your purchasing decisions impact labor compliance.
