Course Description

The immune system helps to defend the body from a wide range of invaders, including pathogens and parasites. Considering the wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites that one may encounter, providing assistance to the existing immune defenses of the body may be highly beneficial. In this lesson, you will examine plants that may directly suppress or kill pathogens, or may have more generalized supportive effects on the immune system as a whole. This lesson assumes you have knowledge of the basic safety implications of plant-based medicines explored in the "Historical Applications of Plant-Based Medicine" lessons "Examine the History of Ethnobotany," "Categorize Active Ingredients," "Use Plant-Based Medicine Safely," and "Become an Informed Consumer."
