Course Description

The digestive system is responsible for extracting nutrients from the food that you eat and moving them into the bloodstream to be distributed to the rest of the body. Problems with digestion can result in a wide range of effects, from mild discomfort to potentially life-threatening illnesses. In this lesson, you will examine plants that may help to soothe irritation, reduce the chances of an infection, relieve constipation, or relieve diarrhea. This lesson assumes you have knowledge of the basic safety implications of plant-based medicines explored in the "Historical Applications of Plant-Based Medicine" lessons "Examine the History of Ethnobotany," "Categorize Active Ingredients," "Use Plant-Based Medicine Safely," and "Become an Informed Consumer."
