Course Description

Many people don't think critically about how their brain actually functions, but it is an organ system like the other systems in your body and can benefit from careful consideration of medicinal plants. The complex interactions among active ingredients and normally occurring chemical signals can be utilized to elicit a positive effect if done carefully. In this lesson, you will examine plants that can stimulate the nervous system, potentially improve the brain's functioning, or alter the mood, relieving states such as anxiety or depression. Incorporating some of these plants into your health plan can potentially reduce or eliminate some of these issues. This lesson assumes you have knowledge of the basic safety implications of plant-based medicines explored in the "Historical Applications of Plant-Based Medicine" lessons "Examine the History of Ethnobotany," "Categorize Active Ingredients," "Use Plant-Based Medicine Safely," and "Become an Informed Consumer."
