Course Description

While you may be well aware of the business goals of your organization, how can you translate those needs to someone who is making a product or product component for you? Using product or service specifications in your communications with a seller allows you to identify and incorporate standard attributes that maximize the balance between cost and quality. In this lesson, you will explore the different components of a product specification and consider what characteristics of the product or service are necessary to reach your business goals as well as how to communicate those characteristics accurately to a seller. You will also discover the role that a request for quotation (RFQ) plays in making a purchase agreement. You will observe how common, industry-standard specifications for a product, service, or product components are determined and used in specifications, and you will identify the appropriate scenario to use a performance specification. Finally, you will draft your own RFQ document, making sure to include product or service characteristics that align with organizational goals.
