Course Description

Chile is a long, narrow country on the western edge of South America that boasts many of the southernmost grape-growing locations in the world (and, remember, in the Southern Hemisphere, moving south brings cooler climates). Like other Southern Hemisphere wine producers, those in Chile work methodically and creatively to understand their land and how to produce the most delicious and high-quality wines possible, even as the climate fluctuates. In this lesson, you will explore the different climates of the Chilean wine-producing regions and the types of grapes cultivated there. As you proceed, start thinking about which region you might want to further investigate.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Consider how history influences the wines of Chile
  • Explore the grape varieties cultivated in Chile and how the climate and geographic features affect the grapes and the wines
  • Anticipate the characteristics of a wine based on wine label content
