Course Description

What is your perception of professionalism? What does it look and sound like to you? Perhaps you can quickly identify some of its characteristics, or you may struggle to articulate it clearly. Chances are, even if you have a strong sense of what professionalism means to you, other people and other cultures will have a different perception of what it means. This lesson invites you to reconsider your view of professional presence. More specifically, you will explore the ranges of behaviors and appearances that convey professionalism. You will draw from examples in the media and from your personal experience to both support—and perhaps challenge—your notions of what it means to act professionally. Near the end of this lesson, you will take an inventory of your personal presentation habits in face-to-face and online meetings. Finally, you will consider how to start using effective practices to cultivate your professional presence in all of your talks.
