Course Description

Before conducting a usability test, you need to develop the specific protocol of what the participant will go through during the test session. A standardized protocol will help you see whether users can easily navigate through the prototype or if they run into issues. You also have to make sure that you and your usability test team are prepared to run the session smoothly and systematically. In order to do this, you develop the usability testing script. In this lesson, you will explore how to choose tasks for the user to complete with the prototype at the usability test as well as how to phrase the instructions for each task, both for the users and for the team. Professor Leshed will also provide you with details on how to identify and fix problems in your task instructions. You will then examine how to best compose and ask questions during the usability test and how to avoid biases in those questions. Finally, you will compile all the pieces into the final usability testing script.
