Course Description

During our interactions with human beings in the process of human-centered design, we have to be careful not to disrespect them or violate their trust. It is therefore important to practice ethical user interactions. It's far too easy to focus exclusively on our research and design goals and assume that our behavior is justified as long as we get good data and a better design. This is not the case, as several famous psychological and social experiments have demonstrated. In this lesson, you will examine how research involves carefully planning how you'll behave when interacting with your users, how to make them comfortable, how to make sure you do not take advantage of them, and how to ensure they consent to the entire experience.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Examine the planning required to ethically interact with human subjects
  • Identify ways to ensure comfort and trust in those providing user feedback
