Course Description

In the field of human-computer interaction, design considerations first start by focusing on and understanding the user. What is the user's perspective? What do they want to achieve? Can they accomplish their goal efficiently by using the interactive technology you are designing? Is the design appropriate for their need? This lesson invites you to explore why and how focusing on the user leads to stronger design. You will examine how this type of focus requires contributions from other disciplines that weren't always associated with design. This expanded interdisciplinary focus helps to clarify good design and bad design, and you will begin to make these distinctions in your own work.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Distinguish between good and bad design from the perspective of user interaction
  • Specify the critical factors for human-centered design
