Course Description

This lesson considers how to determine human resources needs. In order to attract the best candidates for an open job, an organization must know what it requires. Spending time writing accurate job descriptions is key to making sure that companies know what they need from a potential candidate and that the candidate knows what they can expect once they accept a job offer. Additionally, companies must know where and how to look for the right candidates, as the same principles of supply and demand that affect the economic marketplace also impact the field of human resources (HR): Companies don't want to undercompensate employees with rare skills, and they don't want to overcompensate employees with common skills if the same work can be done for less money. In this lesson, you will examine the HR processes of defining a job description and assessing supply and demand in a labor market. You will also define a job analysis and a job specification.
