Course Description

There is a difference in how the body reacts to a food allergy and how it responds to a food intolerance. A person could potentially have an allergic response to one or more of over 150 foods or food additives. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has identified the top eight allergens, which account for 90% of food allergens. In this lesson, you will examine the difference between food allergies and food intolerances and understand the body's reaction to food in both instances. You will then explore the most common food allergens. Since these allergens can appear in foods under many different names, you will determine how to recognize these ingredients on a food label.
