Course Description

Organizations are constantly challenged to try and elicit the best performances from their employees, as it takes more than simply setting a goal to inspire people. We often ask questions like “What if the reward doesn’t seem worth the effort?” when we determine our level of effort to complete an assigned task or project. How we process these various motivational questions is part of expectancy theory. In this lesson, you will determine how employee performance can be influenced; define equity theory and what it means for workplace rewards; and explore what effort, performance, and outcome mean for dynamic organizations.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Define expectancy theory and explain its relevance in the workplace
  • Describe ways effort can be influenced so an organizational outcome can be achieved
