Course Description

While the HR profession has many practices that apply to any organization, how we apply them at Cornell University may be very different than your previous experience. The purpose of this course is to understand the complexity of Cornell because it is a rare hybrid in the world of higher education, being a private institution, but also operating four colleges that were created under New York State law. By completing this course, you will receive a broad overview of Cornell as an institution. You will explore the organizational structure, university governance model, leading through influence, understanding the opportunities and challenges of the leaders with whom we partner, and our role as human resource professionals to contribute to an environment where people thrive.

Benefits to the Learner

Understand the organizational structure of Cornell's administrative leadership, shared governance bodies, and academic employment paths.

Explore how Cornell's institutional culture impacts decision making and nurtures consensus-based, employee-focused leadership practices.
