Course Description

Regardless of income, we all must balance what we own against what we owe. In other words, we manage our income against our expenses as we earn a paycheck, purchase necessities, and pay bills. Businesses are no different, though this balancing act is not performed in organizations by an individual but rather by the partnership of two entities: accounting and finance. If a business is to achieve its goals, it needs accurate accounting and skilled financial management. In this lesson, you will define both accounting and finance and discover the unique role that each plays within an organization. You will also closely examine the financial documents that both accounting and finance use in carrying out their roles within a company: the income statement and the balance sheet. Finally, you will practice reading the income statement and balance sheet so you can start to make more informed financial decisions about business performance.
