Course Description

Every grievance has its basis in the collective bargaining agreement; by definition, if there is no relevant clause in the agreement, there is nothing to grieve. And yet, as legal documents, the language found in a CBA can often seem impenetrable. In this lesson you will begin to investigate the grievance process by looking at grievance clauses. You'll use specific rules of contract interpretation that you may encounter in any legal document on the language commonly found in grievance clauses. You will be introduced to the methodology for approaching the process that will focus your efforts, thus developing a frame of reference you can use to interpret grievance clauses with confidence.
