Course Description

Once you have created a basic Functional Flow Block Diagram (FFBD), it's time to take a deeper look at the flow of your system. In examining the interactions it's likely you'll identify areas that require more elaboration. A hierarchical approach to elaboration will eventually create a portfolio of separate FFBDs that refer to one another in a formal way that allows for easy cross-referencing. In this lesson, you will explore reference blocks and data blocks that can expand a Functional Flow Block Diagram. You will identify outside and inside elements that impact a system and explore how to note them. You will see how an FFBD can be used to address progress and planning issues, as well as explore how to transform functional blocks into structural blocks. This lesson will allow you to map functions and identify operational flow, interfaces, and uncertainties to have a set of Functional Flow Block Diagrams that enhances your team's understanding of your system.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Identify system interfaces
  • Identify areas of uncertainty within the operational flow
