Course Description

Artificial intelligence is both a tool and a threat to creators of all kinds, whether in the creative industries or in software development. Can creators prevent models from training on their content? Do they have a remedy if that already occurred? What happens if a model produces commercial content that infringes a creator’s copyrights? At the same time, many creators and developers are using AI to generate content, inventions, or code they would like to protect. Is “AI-assisted content” truly protectable as intellectual property? This Workshop will explore these questions and provide practical guidance.

Benefits to the Learner

  • Learn where model training constitutes copyright infringement versus fair use, which creators are entitled to compensation, and how the legal landscape will evolve
  • Strengthen protection for AI-assisted work by applying Copyright Office and USPTO standards and adopting practices that improve enforceability
  • Build a cohesive IP portfolio combining patent, copyright, trade secret, and trademark protections rather than relying on a single defense

Target Audience

  • Creators wanting to protect their work from unauthorized model training
  • Individuals already using AI tools and seeking to protect AI-generated outputs
  • Developers concerned about code generation and copyright
  • Rights holders considering litigation or licensing strategies
